Added Bonus of Leaving My Job

We’re still adjusting to the differences in not having a regular paycheck coming in.  With all the chaos, I completely forgot about one of the best parts of leaving my job–I get to roll my 401k over into an IRA.  Not that there was anything wrong with their 401k, but I like the idea of being able to control that investment completely.  We were given very few fund choices there, and what would I have done if the company we were with ended up having a major problem?

I probably would have never thought about that part of it, but my previous job offered a SIMPLE IRA instead of a 401k.  That meant that I was not able to take the funds out and roll them over when I left.  This ended up being really bad, because the fund company got caught up in all the scandle with their fund managers acting inappropriately.  Of course, the fund value dropped, and guess who’s money was still sitting there.
