How Much Does Stuff Really Matter?

I was talking to a friend at work the other day about kids and education and how much it matters for financial prosperity.  He made a statement that really struck me.  He said that he stresses education to his kids because he wants them to be able to go out, get a good job, make a good salary, and have stuff.

 Hmm.

I’m not about to tell someone else how to parent, but I know this much about getting a job and making money–it isn’t about stuff.  It’s about freedom.

I see the accumulation of stuff as just another way of tying yourself down.  My goal is to accumulate financial freedom.  With financial freedom, I can achieve freedom everywhere else.

I want to get rid of my stuff.
