Pricing and Paying For Stuff

Had a funny discussion today with a co-worker about the nuances of ebay and the difference between what something is worth, what you are willing to pay for it, and the price at which you’d like to get it. I was telling him a story about when I bought my last car.

I did my homework, researched, and decided on the price I was willing to pay. Based on this, I decided on an amount for my first offer.

To my surprise, the dealer’s response to my first offer was, “Done!”

On one hand, maybe I should kick myself because I could have gotten it cheaper. However, I choose to look at it like this…I was willing to pay more, and I got it at the price I wanted. Maybe he should be kicking himself knowing that he could have gotten more. :P

As with everything, going in to the negotiations with cash gives you a lot of power in getting the price you want.
